Chewang Motup Goba

Motup was born in Kyagar Village, located in the Nubra Valley in Ladakh, and educated at Tyndale Biscoe School, run by Scottish missionaries in Srinagar, Kashmir. The school encouraged the outdoor spirit in its students and it was here that Motup’s love for the mountains was forged, trekking and climbing in the Kashmir Valley during his school holidays. He climbed his first peak, Harmukh, at the age of 13. Motup’s experience now spans the Himalaya, from Garhwal, Himachal, Ladakh, and Zanskar to Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan.

Motup’s knowledge of Himalayan peaks, trails, rivers and locales is extensive and he is frequently consulted by leading mountaineers both from India and abroad, planning expeditions to difficult to reach and unexplored Himalayan peaks and passes. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and passion for the mountains with his clients.

His adventures include the first ever traverse of the Siachen Glacier with a team of Americans, co-leading a climb for the Rainier Mountaineering team to Mt. McKinley, climbing expedition to Gya (6,794 m), exploration of Nanda Devi Sanctuary, Indo-Japanese Karakoram expedition along the ancient winter trade route, trekking into the deep interiors of Arunachal among the many others.

Besides mountaineering and trekking, Motup is an experienced river runner. He was selected to lead the Indian team to the world rafting championship held in Nantahala, North Carolina, in 1990. He was also the chief training instructor for the team that made the first descent of the Brahmaputra River in 1991 and has rafted down numerous rivers in India.

Yangdu Gombu

Yangdu Gombu was born in Darjeeling to a mountaineering family and also grew up with a passion for the mountains. Her father Sherpa Nawang Gombu, the first man in the world to have climbed Everest twice (with the Americans in 1963 and again with the Indians in 1965) encouraged her interest in a mountaineering career. She has trekked extensively in Nepal, Sikkim, Zanskar and Ladakh and was a trek leader in Nepal for California-based Mountain Travel Sobek. Yangdu has been an instructor for the adventure course at the world-famous Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling, where her father was the former director of field training and is now its honorary advisor. She has also conducted field research on children’s health in rural Nepal for the World Health Organization.

Yangdu combines her love of the outdoors and in-depth field experience with a passion for handling complex logistical operations. She is a detail person and looks after trip logistics, field staff co-ordination and client communication. Her thoroughness and responsiveness to clients across the world is legendary, and it is her organizational skill that ensures that every minute detail is noted and all requests met.

Tara Keshor Maibam
Hailing from Manipur, this ever smiling, quiet person manages our Ganga Rafting Camp. He’s completed his post Graduation in Statistics. His tryst with outdoors was an adventure course at Rishikesh where the rafting bug bit him. From then on he's worked ceaselessly in learning all the vital skills required in the adventure field. He has several years of experience in the outdoors - both on the river and mountain. As a river guide, he's guided on many rivers including the Ganga, Alaknanda, Indus and Zanskar. An expert in conducting adventure activities, he's also a qualified mountaineer having completed both his Basic and Advance Mountaineering courses from NIM, Uttarkashi. He's been on some big mountain expeditions which includes Mamostong Kangri (7516m). Lately he's trying his hand at Kayaking too. He brings great efficiency and focus into any job he undertakes making him 'Mr. Reliable'.
  Vishwas Raj
His love for outdoors drove him from an IT job at Bangalore to the barren mountains of Ladakh after equipping himself with a Basic Mountaineering Course from NIM. Between treks in Ladakh, the time spent with river guides brought him closer to the river as well. From then on he's been mixing treks and rafting into a delightful cocktail! He's trekked on many routes in the northern Himalaya and extensively in the Western Ghats. His latest love is the river and aspires to be a Kayaker soon. He handles the marketing and all the main tasks for our rafting wing.
  Gunpal Singh Rawat
Gunpal, from Kaudiyala village in Garhwal is our most senior river guide and has vast knowledge of the river and river running. He has with confidence and ease rafted down major Himalayan Rivers including the Zanskar at its tumultuous high. In the summer of 2006, Gunpal against all odds rafted against the currents of the flooded Zanskar river and rescued over 100 stranded trekkers safely across. People who have rafted with him know how solid and safe he can be on the river. During our yearly Ganga Camp setting exercise, which is a weeklong activity we just can't do without him. He is stern whether dealing with errant rapids or guests.
  Vikram Singh Rana
Vikram aka 'the playboy' of our camp hails from Kaudiyala village in Garhwal. He believes in the 'live and let live' philosophy. He's an expert in charming our guests during our regular day trips on the Ganges. Whether it's starting water fights or showing stunts on the river he is the first person to start off. His specialty is the reverse summersault! He's been guiding for many years now on many rivers in Uttrakhand and Ladakh.
  Jangu Singh Budhatoki
Our safety Kayaker. Hailing from a small village in Nepal, our little man is no novice to the outdoors . In his early days he's been on some big mountain expeditions including the Chaukambha, Shivling and Kamet. He's struggled his way up gradually doing a variety of odd jobs over many years. The result: we have a 'jack of all trades'....our most handy man on camp. Whether it's in the river, the Kitchen, on a trek, or simply having a good time; he's our man! He has kayaked on many rivers in the northern Himalaya and has been on big river expeditions (Zanskar). The smallest and sweetest among all of us he's always the favorite of our guests. He's a treasure trove of interesting experiences and can keep anybody entertained endlessly with his own unique style of narration.
  Kunchok Thinles
Our Mountaineer. Hails from Ladakh. When he’s not climbing peaks he likes to spend time at our beach camp. Handles trekking, adventure and rope activities for our guests. A seasoned mountaineer, he has many peaks to his credit... Mamostong Kangri(7516m) , Chong Kumdan 2(7005m), Kun(7007m) are just to name the major ones. A person with a level head, he’s the first that comes to mind while handing over any major responsibility. He’s our man for all seasons!
  Stanzin Punchok
Our Driver. Hails from Ladakh and has been driving us and all our rafting equipment all over the Himalaya since 2007. Remains behind the scenes, but plays a vital role.
